Woodhouse Moor and the Skate Park

Went for a walk on Woodhouse Moor on Saturday , hundreds of people out enjoying the sun,  a bit disappointed at the amount of litter strewn about. I reported this to the council am asking for Street wardens to have a walkabout to ask people to take their rubbish home with them.

Hyde Park skate park was absolutley packed. I remember when it was just four old unused tennis courts when I was a Councillor for the ward and with my colleagues Brian Dale and Maggie Giles Hill we put forward the proposal and got the funding to turn it into a skate park.

It has proved to be one of the best schemes I ever dreamed up and I always stop to have a look in amazement at the skills of the young people who skate and ride their BMX bikes on it.

I had a go at skateboarding at the opening ceremony , but gave up after a few feeble attempts and a number of heavy falls !

Not my cup of tea.
